Yoram A. Puius, MD, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow
Division of Infectious Diseases
Department of Medicine
New York-PresbyterianHospital/Columbia University Medical Center

I am a postdoctoral fellow inthe Division of Infectious Diseases at the Columbia University Medical Center. I completed my doctoral training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 2001. My prior research in the Department of Biochemistry under Dr. Steven C. Almo was focused on the use of X-ray crystallography and biochemical techniques to map the functional surfaces of signal transduction proteins.

I trained in the Department of Internal Medicine at the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital /CornellUniversity Medical Center before arriving here to begin my fellowship in Infectious Diseases. My interests are in the use of structural biology and biochemical techniques to explore the basis of bacterial pathogenesis, and to identify targets for rational design of antimicrobial therapeutics.

I am currently beginning a collaborative project with Dr. Shapiro and Dr. Alice Prince involving the molecular basis of airway inflammation in pneumonia caused by Staphylococcus aureus.

I am supported by a postdoctoral grant from Pfizer,Inc.
