Carlo Ciatto

I did my undergraduate studies at the University of Pisa, Italy, and was awarded
a degree in Biology in 1994. After graduation I moved to Jena, Germany, where
I worked at the Institute for Molecular Biotechnology. In 1999 I started a doctoral
program at the University of Zurich, in Switzerland, and received a PhD in Natural
Sciences at the end of 2002. I then joined the laboratory of Prof. Randy Read at the
University of Cambridge, UK, as a research associate. I have been a postdoctoral
researcher at Columbia University, in Prof. Larry Shapiro's laboratory, since November
2003. My work focuses on cadherins, transmembrane proteins that mediate cell-cell
adhesion and are fundamental in embryonal development, and in establishing and
maintaining tissue structure.
